The nonprofit, member-supported Lensic Performing Arts Center hosts more than 200 events throughout the year, from theater, music, and dance performances to literary happenings, films, and lectures. This year-round programming is integral to our mission to present local, national, and international artists in diverse, cross-cultural performances.
Many of the events at our theater are produced and presented directly by The Lensic—either on our own or in collaboration with other organizations—as part of the Lensic Presents programming.
Others are hosted by The Lensic for local groups and organizations, many of them nonprofits, from Santa Fe and the surrounding area.

Lensic Presents delivers a broad range of eclectic programming that showcases talent from around the world across the artistic spectrum.
Many presentations feature local artists as part of the organization’s mission to support the arts in Santa Fe. Lensic Presents introduces the community to both internationally renowned performers and talent in our own backyard.
In 2011, The Lensic celebrated 10 years of delivering a spectacular array of programming to the Santa Fe community, another milestone in accomplishing our mission to bring diverse art and people together to enrich lives.

The Lensic subsidizes the cost of each event through monies raised in its annual fundraising campaign.

Lensic Presents brings a diverse range of artists to its stage, featuring live performances by local, national and international talent. It showcases world-renowned artists such as the Kronos Quartet, Suzanne Farrell Ballet and Patricia Racette; national favorites like bluesmen Eric Bibb and Guy Davis, the Golden Dragon Acrobats and the award-winning dance company Trey McIntyre; and produces local events like Circus Luminous and Nuestra Música.
In addition, Lensic Presents offers a growing number of popular series, some the result of artistic partnership with other organizations, such as our collaboration with the Santa Fe Opera to present The Met: Live in HD, and others produced on our own.
Some of the favorites presented on a regular basis include:
Big Screen Classics - Generously sponsored by Morgan Stanley
Big Screen Classics honors the history of the Lensic Theater as Santa Fe’s favorite silver screen and community gathering place during times good and bad. Throughout the year, we show film masterworks such as On the Waterfront, Jaws, Lawrence of Arabia and Casablanca. We show cult classics too—Harold and Maude and The Big Lebowski were recent sold-out Big Screen Classics.
The Met: Live in HD
Since the first broadcast in December 2007, The Lensic has presented more than 36 operas in high definition (HD). The series, featuring morning broadcasts and evening encores, has become a sensational addition to the Santa Fe cultural scene.
National Theatre Live - Generously sponsored by Century Bank
NT Live performances are filmed live at the National Theatre in London in high definition and broadcast via satellite to over 330 cinemas and performing arts centers such as The Lensic around the world, live in Europe and some US cities, and time-delayed in countries further afield. The Lensic is proud to participate in what is now the third season of broadcasts.
New Mexico Jazz Festival - Partially supported by Thornburg Investment Management
The Lensic is the proud co-sponsor of the New Mexico Jazz Festival, in partnership with the Outpost Performance Space and the Santa Fe Jazz Foundation. The 10-day festival features concerts in Albuquerque and Santa Fe by New Mexico-based musicians and major touring artists such as the Preservation Hall Jazz Band, Sonny Rollins, MyCoy Tyner, Branford Marsalis, Cassandra Wilson and Pat Methany.
Under Construction: New Works in Progress
The Lensic is proud to be sought after as a venue for artists with theatrical works in development. Our Under Construction: New Works in Progress series offers a fascinating look at the process of theatrical creativity as writers and actors hone their work on our stage, before a live audience.
Santa Fe artists Joan Tewkesbury, Howard Korder, and Terry Allen have nurtured new work at The Lensic, as have performers from the Z Space Studio in San Francisco, who presented a first reading of The Los Alamos Project. Monologist Mike Daisy came to The Lensic to develop his work If You See Something, Say Something, which went on to premiere at the Public Theater in New York.
You don’t have to travel far to experience great world music in Santa Fe! In the last decade, The Lensic has presented more than 40 world music concerts. Featured artists have included Los Muñequitos (Cuba), Lunasa (Ireland) and Puerto Plata (Dominican Republic).
