Monte del Sol Charter School presents Mentorship Festival

Monte del Sol Charter School presents Mentorship Festival

April 24, 2019   8:45 AM

Monte del Sol Charter School Mentorship Festival is the culmination of the school’s 8-month Mentorship program. Each week, 150 students participate in mentorships with skilled and generous mentors around the city different. Now in our 19th year, the program is a cornerstone of the school’s vision and to date has completed over 3000 Mentorships. The program also serves as a model for other programs in the city.

Students have directed plays, produced films, composed songs, designed furniture, built bicycles, written books, explored quantum mechanics, studied polymer chemistry, designed lasers, tended bee hives, trained service dogs, and more.

At the school-wide Mentorship Festival, we showcase student performances. The student also participates in a lively question and answer session with the evaluators, their peers and others in the audience.

When students experience how the things they love connect to real people and activities; learning becomes alive and relevant. It is the relationship between our students and their Mentors that drives the program’s success, and helps to develop human capital for our city, modeling community service and social responsibility.

To find out how you can become a Mentor, please call or email Giselle Piburn: [email protected] or 982-5225 x115.

This event is free, non-ticketed.

Deva Premal & Miten with Manose: On the Wings of Mantra

Deva Premal & Miten with Manose: On the Wings of Mantra

May 3, 2019   7:30 PM

Mantra has gone mainstream, and Deva Premal & Miten have been on the leading edge of this global chant phenomenon for over 20 years, propelling the ancient healing power of mantra chanting into the 21st century as they travel the globe with Nepalese bansuri maestro Manose and their international band.

Their transformational events have become legendary among millions of meditators and yoga practitioners around the world, with sell out concerts and a string of acclaimed CDs topping World and New Age charts at iTunes, Amazon and Billboard.

Their blend of sensual, groove based, east-meets-west style of music has attracted the attention of superstars, celebrities, and world teachers - even the Dalai Lama is known to include their chants in his private time. And they have also taken their mantras to prisons (such as San Quentin), homeless shelters and facilities for autistic children, where chanting offers an effortless path to ease the heart and quiet the mind.

This planet is shaking and trembling. It is obvious that we cannot wait for peace to be delivered from 'the outside'. Deva & Miten are proof that chanting these ancient mantras opens the door to an inner sanctum where endless peace reigns.
