Lensic Presents The Choir of Man

February 20, 2019   7:30 PM

A runaway hit at numerous international music festivals, The Choir of Man hits the road for its first U.S. tour! It’s a party. It’s a concert. It’s interactive Broadway. It’s a pint-filled good time set in a working pub that combines bar-stool harmonies, high-energy dance, and live percussion with foot-stomping choreography.

The multitalented cast of nine ordinary blokes sings everything—pub tunes, folk, opera, classic rock—all to roof-raising heights. It’s the best singing, dancing, stomping, pub-crawl-of-a-concert you’ll ever attend, with world-class tap-dancers, tumblers, singers, and musicians. Cheers!

Lensic Presents Van Gogh: Of Wheat Fields and Clouded Skies

Lensic Presents Van Gogh: Of Wheat Fields and Clouded Skies

February 21, 2019   7:00 PM

Take a fresh look at Van Gogh through the legacy of the greatest private collector of the Dutch artist's work: Helene Kröller-Müller (1869-1939), one of the first to recognize the genius of Van Gogh. In the early 20th century, Kröller-Müller amassed nearly 300 of Van Gogh’s paintings and drawings now housed at her namesake museum in Holland.

The Basilica Palladina exhibition in Vicenza, "Amid Wheat Fields and Clouded Skies," with 40 paintings and 85 drawings on loan from the Kröller-Müller Museum, lends the basis of this program, revealing Van Gogh's art and his genius, while allowing audiences to understand the importance of drawing as part of his craft.

Van Gogh's seemingly instinctive canvases were the result of long, preparatory studies very rarely exhibited - not just sketches but stunning works of art in and of themselves, where the broken flow of lines that characterize the style and strokes in Van Gogh's paintings can already be seen.

Estimated runtime: 90 min

Performance Santa Fe presents Delfeayo Marsalis with The Uptown Jazz Orchestra

Performance Santa Fe presents Delfeayo Marsalis with The Uptown Jazz Orchestra

March 1, 2019   7:30 PM

The jazz world has a royal family, and its name is Marsalis. Delfeayo Marsalis, the trombone-playing member of the current generation of Marsalis jazz musicians, assembled a best-of-the-best jazz orchestra 10 years ago. Although the group began with the intent of keeping jazz traditions alive in the schools of New Orleans, Delfeayo and the orchestra have won a far wider audience than their target. Their sound is decidedly modern, but firmly rooted stylistically in the rich jazz history of New Orleans.

The Lensic and The Santa Fe Opera present The Met Live in HD: La Fille du Régiment

The Lensic and The Santa Fe Opera present The Met Live in HD: La Fille du Régiment

March 2, 2019   6:00 PM

This frothy comedy mixes humor with a rush of buoyant melody and notorious vocal challenges. The story concerns a young orphan girl raised by an army regiment as their mascot and begins at the moment of her first stirrings of love. Complications (and comedy) ensue when her true identity is discovered. The action is startlingly simple and unencumbered by intricate subplots, allowing the full charm of the characters and their virtuosic music to come across in an uninhibited way.

Tenor Javier Camarena and soprano Pretty Yende team up for a feast of bel canto vocal fireworks—including the show-stopping tenor aria “Ah! Mes amis,” with its nine high Cs. Alessandro Corbelli and Maurizio Muraro trade off as the comic Sergeant Sulpice, with mezzo-soprano Stephanie Blythe as the outlandish Marquise of Berkenfield. Enrique Mazzola conducts. Approx. runtime: 2:55 [1 Intermission]

Tickets: $22-$28 | Students: $15

Performance Santa Fe presents Danú

Performance Santa Fe presents Danú

March 7, 2019   7:30 PM

It’s often been said everyone’s Irish on St. Patrick’s Day, but perhaps the reality is that everyone’s Irish when listening to Irish music. The musicians of Danú, whether they’re singing in Irish or English, blend beautifully crafted vocals with the unmistakably Irish sounds of flute, tin whistle, fiddle, uilleann pipes (Irish bagpipes), button accordion, and bodhrán (hand-held, Irish drum). Their sound and tunes transcend time, place, and ethnicity, drawing listeners home to a place many have never actually been.
