The Lensic and the Santa Fe Opera present The Met: Live in HD 2010-11 season
Santa Fe, NM (August 10, 2010) – The Met: Live in HD 2010-11 season features seven new productions, including two company premieres and the talent of many of the world’s greatest singers and conductors. The Met premieres of John Adams’s Nixon in China and Rossini’s Le Comte Ory, the first two installments of Robert Lepage’s new production of Wagner’s epic Der Ring des Nibelungen, with staging of Das Rheingold and Die Walküre have been announced by Metropolitan Opera’s General Manager Peter Gelb and Music Director James Levine.
The Lensic Performing Arts Center and the Santa Fe Opera are proud to present The Met: Live in HD. Now in its fourth year, the high definition broadcast series is wildly popular with seasoned opera fans and opera newcomers alike. Two shows, a morning live simulcast and an evening encore broadcast, allow audiences the opportunity to intimately experience the magnificent productions of the Metropolitan Opera. At this time, The Lensic is the sole venue for The Met: Live in HD in Santa Fe.
If their schedules allow, patrons are encouraged to purchase tickets for the evening encores as many of the live morning simulcasts often quickly sell out.
The 2010-11 season of The Met: Live in HD will feature 12 transmissions, beginning on October 9 with Das Rheingold and continuing with Boris Godunov (October 23), Don Pasquale (November 13), Don Carlo (December 11 – this date will be December 18 for Lensic audiences), La Fanciulla del West (January 8), Nixon in China (February 12), Iphigénie en Tauride (February 26), Lucia di Lammermoor (March 19), Le Comte Ory (April 9), Capriccio (April 23), Il Trovatore (April 30), and Die Walküre (May 14).
The company’s enormously successful, Peabody and Emmy Award-winning series of live transmissions into movie theaters around the world sold more than 2.2 million tickets during the 2009-10 season, effectively tripling the Met’s paying audience (approximately 800,000 people attend performances in the opera house in a Met season). The season’s final transmission of Armida, starring Renée Fleming, was seen in more than 1,200 theaters in 44 countries.
