Lensic Presents The Big Lebowski, January 21
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
January 6, 2011
Santa Fe, NM, Jan. 6-- The Lensic Performing Arts Center presents the Coen brothers’ 1998 cult comedy, The Big Lebowski, as part of its Big Screen Classics series. The all-star cast features Jeff Bridges as the slacker Jeffrey “Dude” Lebowski. The film, with its unpredictable plot, sudden violence and hysterical, expletive-riddled dialogue, remains popular today, with the phrase, “the Dude abides!” part of the national lexicon.
A case of mistaken identity turns into turmoil when gangsters mistake the Dude for a Los Angeles millionaire Jeffrey Lebowski, who owes them money. Thugs break into Dude’s house and pee on his rug. Chaos ensues when the Dude enlists his bowling buddies’ help in seeking restitution.
The all-star cast of characters includes: John Goodman as Walter Sobchak, a blustery, hot-tempered Vietnam veteran; Steve Buscemi as Donny, an ex-surfer; and the colorful Jesus Quintana, played by John Turturro. Philip Seymour Hoffman is the Big Lebowski's unctuous assistant and Julianne Moore plays a feminist artist.
Big Screen Classics are sponsored by Morgan Stanley.
