The Lensic and The Santa Fe Opera Present The Met: Live in HD 2011-2012 Season
The Lensic Performing Arts Center and The Santa Fe Opera are pleased to present the highly anticipated 5th annual The Met: Live in HD season at The Lensic. The season features 11 transmissions, 10 morning broadcasts and 9 evening encores. The season includes new productions, including a world premiere, a Met premiere, and the complete Ring Cycle.

Lensic Presents National Theatre of London in HD THE CHERRY ORCHARD
Set at the beginning of the twentieth century, The Cherry Orchard captures a poignant moment in Russia’s history as the country rolls inexorably toward the Russian Revolution. Zoë Wanamaker stars as Madame Ranevskaya who returns to the family estate (which includes a large and well-known cherry orchard) more or less bankrupt after ten years abroad. Continuing to luxuriate in her swiftly fading opulence and despite the growing hostile forces outside, she and her brother snub the lucrative scheme of Lopakhin, a peasant turned entrepreneur, to save the family estate. In so doing, they put up their lives for auction and seal the fate of the beloved orchard.
