The Lensic’s Artistic Programming
Enriching and Entertaining the Community of Santa Fe
Since 2001, The Lensic, Santa Fe’s Performing Arts Center, has had great success in presenting and producing artistic performances. The Lensic’s year-round programming is integral to fulfilling the organizational mission in that it helps the theater to present local and national artists in diversified, cross-cultural performances. Over the past four years, The Lensic has increased its independent production and presentation schedule, which includes:
- Lensic Presents Series: Diverse programming that showcases national talent. Examples of The Lensic Presents Series performances include The Suzanne Farrell Ballet, Peter Boal & Company, new work by The Flying Karamazov Brothers, Word for Word Performing Arts Company, Roadside Theatre/Zuni Project, Joe Goode Performance Group, Children of Uganda, and the Golden Dragon Acrobats.
- World Music Series: Since 2001, the theater has presented over 35 world music concerts. The Lensic has showcased artists such as the American Indian bands Indigenous and Clan/Destine, Mexican-American singer Lila Downs, and other world music that appeals to the community at large, such as oud master Hamza El Din and Ireland’s Lunasa. World music concerts are accessible to the entire community, as ticket prices range from $15 to $30.
- Under Construction: An original, ongoing series that showcases professional writers and actors in theater pieces under development, which has enjoyed a successful run since 2002. This program has nurtured new work by nationally known Santa Fe artists such as Joan Tewkesbury, Howard Korder, Chris DeVore, Danny Rubin, Terry Allen, and Joan Buck.
- Big Screen Classics: The Lensic relives its heyday as a film palace through its Big Screen Classics program, a series that presents Hollywood's best loved films. Lawrence of Arabia, Out of Africa, The Sound of Music, Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid, and Annie Hall are just a few of the movies includedin this series.. Big Screen Classics is a community favorite, thanks to the careful selection of films and the low ticket prices ($5).
